BharatMatrimony Ties Up With Airtel - Consim Info Founder Murugavel Upbeat On Mobile Matrimony

BharatMatrimony.com the matrimony portal which claims to have over 12 million registered members announced the launch of matrimony services on Airtel. Airtel has over 77 million mobile subscribers and bharatmatrimony’s matrimony services would now be available on Airtel Live the wap portal on all the GPRS enabled handsets using an airtel connection across the country.

Keeping the mobile users in mind Bharatmatrimony.com has customized its services. There is no fee for accessing to the service as well as no charges for activating the service as it is wap based. We had covered airtel launching its airtellive portal using iGoogle earlier. This partnership seems to be part of a planned strategy for Bharatmatrimony to be a matrimony servces provider on mobile.

We spoke to Consim Info Founder Murugavel Janakiraman on whether this was part of a planned strategy to become a mobile matrimony services provider.

His reply was “Yes it is. I’ve always believed that Mobile is going to be an important delivery channel for us. It even reflects in our new name CONSIM (Consumer Services through Internet & Mobile) We were one of the first companies to launch matrimony services through a SMS portal way back in 2004.”

We questioned Murugavel on whether he thought a service like matrimony would be effective on mobile?

His Reply “I think that the mobile will become the entry point for a lot of people to this category.  With limited internet reach in India we believe lot of people will first experience the power of internet applications like this thru mobile.   This service provides an opportunity for Airtel users to search and contact millions of BharatMatrimony members and for BharatMatrimony members it's an additional reach.”

Given that mobile subscribers are increasing at the rat eof almost 10 million per month this does seem like the way most internet services would try and expand their reach. Though it could be debated as to how much adoption and subscription would happen for these services via mobile.

Indian blog Mutiny, Taking the Print route

The India centric blog Mutiny.in is venturing into the print media space.

mutinyMutiny.in, which started in 2006, prides itself as an Indian thought terminus - a platform to place one's opinion, share experiences, and debate issues. A community blog that aims at discussing and addressing issues of social importance around politics, religion, science, media, technology, terrorism, gender, sport, cinema, television - and many more.

"We wan't to be India's Huffington post" is what Mutiny's founder Jacob (aka Chacko) had to say when asked about where did he see Mutiny going from here. He further added "We want to be accessible to more people. We want to print views expressed here and make it available for more sections of our society."

When asked about what will happen to the blog Jacob said that the blog will continue to remain as it is and that the print version was an extension of the blog. That being said, only selected articles from the blog will be published in the magazine.

Personally I think this is a great opportunity for Mutiny to venture into the print world, it would have to use viral marketing to its best possible use for it to create an impact on the users. That being said, it also as to be wary of what goes into the magazine since a lot of the stuff they publish is hard hitting politics and also highly opinionated in nature.

Earlier this year, Mutiny got itself registered as a private limited company and there were talks of it going print as well. The initial date of release was fixed upon as 15th August but had to be postponed to a later date.

However the subscriptions are now open and one can subscribe for the magazine here. As a part of their promotional strategy they are handling out a 16GB iPhone to one of their lucky subscribers.
