5 Web 2.0 Tools To Leverage Your Brand Image

Branding is nothing more than a buzz created by the modern businessmen to promote their brands. Though this was a partial truth the other half is that today there is nothing that your competitors cannot duplicate within a short period of time. The only thing that will help you to move on is better branding.

Brand building is a long term process which at times can be pain in ass. At times people are so much obsessed with the term branding that they tend to forget their prime goal. The key to stay ahead in completion is networking. It helps and boosts your R&D, Clients, Knowledge and much more.

Web 2.0

Following are the 5 web 2.0 tools which will help you to leverage your branding

1) Twitter/Pownce –

Twitter:

It's a micro blogging site with 140 character limitations. It has become a huge hit in a short span of time. From events announcements to breaking news all of them I read it here first. A company profile can surely help you to get more clients, solve your existing customer's problems and above all ORM (Online reputation Management).

Pownce: It is similar like twitter the only difference being that here you don't have 140 character limitations and you can share your pics and links with your fans (friends).
A fine example of this can be our WATBlog twitter account. This is where we share our thoughts and answer to our readers comments.

2) LinkedIn – It is a business oriented professional networking site. Remember its all about networking and LinkedIn is a place which you definitely don't wanna miss.

• You build your network and your network contains direct connections i.e contacts/friends and contacts of your friends. This can be used to gain an introduction to someone you wish to know through a mutual, trusted contact.

• It can then be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in one’s contact network.

• Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates.

• Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them.

3) Facebook Yet another social networking site but this one is not limited to the professionals only. You will find all types of people over here. The best part of facebook is its applications. An application made by your company can be a huge hit and can also help you to leverage your branding. Besides that sharing of your company events and meetings pictures can help you to attract a large number of audiences. An excellent example of this is scrabulous.

4) Blogs – What can be a better tool than blog to reach out to thousands of people at a time. As blogs are personalized in nature and it reflects the authors' thoughts, people tend to get more easily connected. If they find an article interesting enough they will share it with their friends and also comment. Through their comments you can get to know what exactly they feel about you and your brand. Moreover Corporate blogging is turning out to be a one top solution for all your problems which includes ORM, Branding, Marketing and much more. Our sister concern WATConsult.com helps and provides you these services.

5) Bookmarking – Once you are done with your blog post the next step that you must take is to bookmark it and share it with everyone on a bookmarking site. But remember to share the love. Just bookmarking your own articles can make you look spammy.

I have listed down my favorite 5 tools for online branding. I would also love to know which tools you use for your online branding solutions.

Startupforstartups.com - Now trade your equity for product development

startupforstartups

With the buzzing Startup sceene in India, equity seems to be a hot property and it’s no surprise like TimesGroup have something called as Times Private Treaties through which it seems to be striking advertising for equity deals with startups and sme’s across the world. Now, this trend of equity for offering services be it media outreach or other resources that help a startup seem to be catching up in India. One such initiative that we came across is startupforstartups.com by Wissen Systems a product development and consulting firm based out of Nashik.

So what are they exactly offering?

Startupforstartups aims at providing product development solutions whether completely outsourced or be it a part of a larger development requirement. They believe in working closely with founders on all aspects of the product and not just development.

What do they charge in return?

From the looks of it, the model seems to be flexible and typically follows a cash plus equity excercise. They also have a consultancy model in which the team does not actively provide development but works with the founders and consults them to build the product.

Why this initiative might just work?

This initiative might work as product development expertise and more importantly good product  expertise is rare in India. Though there is little known about Wissen System prior to this initiative, if they are able to provide good product development expertise and build a few case studies then they will surely be able to attract a larger set of startups.

There is surely a need for this kind of service and their success will depend upon whether they are able to build good relations with the startup community.

Zapak Launches Zapakworld.com, Turns Aggregator

Zapakworld

Reliance-ADAG group’s Zapak has launched what appears to be an aggregator of Flash games online. The website, Zapakworld.com does not contains games from Zapak.com. With reportedly more than 12000 games, Zapakwaorld.com claims to be the biggest online flash game aggregator in the world.

I visited the website and it had the same colorful look that Zapak.com has. The games all were from the different websites. At times, there was just a link to the original website. That was the case when the game owner didn’t wanted Zapak to host the game on Zapakworld.com website.

There were categories of games and also a feedback system in place.

Once again, a good strategy by Zapak to bring all casual game players to its own properties (websites). Zapak.com does have a large collection of games. But what after you have played all of them? You go out, looking for games from somewhere else. Zapak, now, kind-of says that you don’t need to go anywhere else. Zapakworld.com aggregates games from other websites too.

Good move.

[How To] Make Your Avatar Appear on the Comments Section on New WATBlog - Using Gravatar!

We are sure you must have noticed the fresh and cute avatars that feature beside your name, in new WATBlog’s comments section, below every single post. We incorporated this feature so that we could map images to the names of our beloved readers. Yes, we know you must be wondering how to customize the avatar that appears beside your name and we are always there to help. :-)

This feature is provided by Gravatar, a concept for globally-unique avatars which was invented by Tom Werner. A Gravatar avatar can be upto 512 pixels wide, is always square and is displayed by 80×80 pixels, by default. Each Garavtar is rated with an MPAA-style age recommendation, which allows webmasters to control the content of the Gravatars displayed on ther web sites.

So, cutting out all the crap, how do you enable customized avatars on WATBlog? Here is the trick -

  1. First, you shall need to visit Gravatar’s signup page.
  2. Gravatar\'s SignUp Page

As shown in the picture above, all you need to do is enter the email address that you use to comment on the blog.

  3. After you click on “SignUp”, you should get a confirmation email sent to your inbox. Just open the email and click on the link provided, to confirm the validity of your email id.
  4. Now, you should be presented a page, asking you for a “Nickname” and the password. Note: You shall not be allowed to change the “Nickname” later, so choose wisely!
  5. Click on the “Signup” button.
  6. On the next page, you should get a massage that says “Whoops, looks like you don’t have any images yet!”. Click on the link “Add one by clicking here!”.
  7. Now, you get 3 options to choose from, “My Computer’s Hard Drive”, “An image on the Internet” and “Your WordPress.com Avatar”.
  8. Clicking on “Your WordPress Avatar” shall allow Gravatar fetch your avatar from your WordPress account, provided you are already signed into your account.
  9. Clicking on “An image on the Internet” shall ask you for the URL of the avatar that you wish to use.
  10. Selecting “My Computer’s Hard Drive”, Gravatar shall ask you to select and upload the avatar picture from your computer’s hard drive.
  11. In the next page, pan the dotted square, mentioning the part of the avatar picture you wish to crop (it shall always be a square) and click on “Crop and Finish!”
  12. Now, you should be presented with a page like the one shown below.

These ratings are asked for, so that the webmasters can automatically decide which kinds of avatars should be allowed in their pages. Rate your picture accordingly.
For WATBlog, we shall suggest you upload an avatar that can at least be rated ‘PG’.

  13. And Voila! You are all set. Now, all you need to do is keep commenting on our posts to find yourself smiling at the world, through the window of WATBlog ;-)

Ohh, by the way, do not forget to let us know what you think about our brand new theme!

LiveJournal & Caferati Launch Flash Fiction Contest for Indians

Do you remember the precis writing competitions that your English teacher used to coax everyone to get enrolled into, back in 8th grade? Well, there couldn’t have been a better time than this for you to start thanking her. If you have the knack to spin yarns out of nothing, here’s a chance that you’d rather not wish to miss.

Caferati, a forum of writers in English, and LiveJournal, world’s leading community blogging site, have joined hands to present a contest named “The LiveJournal - Caferati Fiction Flash Contest“.

What is it all about?

Well, it’s not rocket science, really. The muse of your story should be ‘Journal’ and the story should not exceed 500 words. All this, for a cash prize of Rs. 19,999.

What do we think about it?

The idea does seem very novel. The concept of blogging still needs to catch up in a big way, in a country like India. Even today, more than majority of the population doesn’t seem to understand what a blog means, despite the word getting used more and more rampantly in movies, newspapers and what more, even music videos!

India has a very rich repository of writers and literature enthusiasts. Hence, LiveJournal’s move of including caferati into the deal makes perfect sense since Caferati already happens to be a very rich forum of writers who shall be more than happy to grab an opportunity like this.

Looking at it from LiveJournal’s perspective, the platform is still not very in India. When it comes to blogging platforms, It is Blogger, WordPress and MSN Spaces that rule the roost. of course, LiveJournal has never been the platform of choice for hardcore bloggers and neither are they prime targets. LiveJournal has always maintained the feel and essence of a “Journal” and is more popular as an online personal journal than anything else. It’s a very clever marketing strategy from their part to come up with a story writing contest with the theme, “journal”. Moreover, since the participants need to be registered LJ members themselves, it also forces a few to actually check out the innards of the platform, first hand.

This is also a huge opportunity for Caferati to get noticed, internationally.

Andrew Paulson, Chairman of the Board of SUP, the owners of LiveJournal globally, said,

"India was our first port of call after we acquired LiveJournal last December. We already have a great reach in many online markets and have a small but loyal following in India. This project sees us, for the first time, actually trying to support the growth of new local communities in India. LiveJournal already has over 16 million accounts today and I am hoping that it won't be long before there are many more of these coming from India."

With LiveJournal trying to expand its global reach, India is a very logical extension to the purpose, owing to the huge population that can be catered to, right away, and also with India growing larger by the day, in the Web 2.0 scenario, the contest is a natural first step to seed many such initiaves in India.
