iXiGo Launches Mobile Version of Travel Search - Looking To Eliminate Other OTA’s

Just recently iXiGo.com had announced its tieup with Ndtv convergence for powering Ndtvtravels.com now iXiGo.com has launched a mobile version of its travel search engine. One can access this on m.ixigo.com

This is a move by iXiGO to tap the busy on the move executive who would be using this service to search for available tickets. iXiGO Mobile has a unique feature of click-to-call booking mechanism which enables people to speak directly with the call centres of respective airlines and hotel booking providers.

On the expansion options of this mobile version iXiGo Founder and CEO Aloke Bajpai said, "Next, we will be actively signing up distribution partners for this service – operators, mobile VAS providers and mobile media companies. They will benefit from a great mobile travel product and quality content, and we will expand our pan-India reach".

iXiGO's direct-booking model by-passes online travel agents (think the yatra’s, cleartrips of the world) and allows users to save booking fees charged by them. This obviously wont go down well with OTA’s who are anyways laying off people and ofcourse are facing a pretty bad recession as well.

Economic Slowdown May Impact 3G Spectrum Auction?

Well a market crash affects everyone and even though Jet airways may have hived off and then called back its 1900 employees that in no way means that the worst is over yet! Looking at the current market scenario even Minister of Communications and IT seems to be reconsidering whether its the right time for a 3G auction? He said “I have to discuss with the finance minister whether the atmosphere prevailing right now is conducive for an auction”

Though inorder to reaffirm their commitment to rollout 3G he said “But we are not slowing down any action, it is going on”

Now december was to be the time when the global auction of radio spectrum for third-and fourth-generation (3G and 4G) wireless services in india were to take place and it surely would have been a money spinner as the government hoped to raise up to 400 billion rupees ($8.2 billion) for this auction.

Even now the goverment isn’t saying that the auction wont happen but it surely is reconsidering the same given the economic conditions. Though it seems unlikely that the government would allow installment based payments inorder to buy the spectrum as reported by economic times earlier.

Lets wait and watch over the next few days on how the situation changes.

20% of the World’s Wimax connections to be in India by 2012 - Wimax Laptops Launched

So Wimax Forum which is an industry-led, not-for-profit organization has projected that more than 27.5 million users in India would be users of Wimax and that number puts India as a 20% shareholder of the entire Wimax market the world over!

This means that in the next four years WiMAX would be a $13-billion market. And its not only the wimax forum but the government as well seems to pushing for the roll out of wimax in India. The Government has announced its decision to auction WiMAX spectrum by December this year. Telecom players like Reliance Communications, Tata Communications and State-owned BSNL are looking also looking to aggressively deploy the technology to boost broadband penetration. Infact players have already been testing wimax in certain cities and some have even launched residential wimax in some cities last year itself.

There has been some concern on the high reserve price for wimax spectrum by isp’s which was raised from the earlier Rs. 550 crore to a whopping Rs. 1010 crore last month.

Even though such roll out issues remain that didn’t stop Mr.A Raja Minister of Communications and IT from launching WiMax embedded laptop computers in India. The laptops with Intel chips inside from computer manufacturers such as Lenovo and ASUS.

If you ask me I would say that the wimax connections number is an optimistic figure to say the least. Just to give you an example I applied for reliance wimax for my home connection in mumbai and the person said it will take over a month to get one! When asked why? He said some device wasn’t available! In this kind of state I really doubt 2.5 million connections would be achieved. I guess along with technology customer service is another aspect that needs to improve if connectivity has to grow.
