Cricketnext.com Launches Mobile Version In Partnership With July Systems

Going mobile seems to be in vogue these days with a number of websites launching their mobile versions. Given that the cricket season is on with India battling Australia in Border -Gavaskar trophy its probably the best time to launch a feature or a cricket related product. Thats exactly what Web18’s Cricketnext.com has done.

Cricketnext.com has tied up with July Systems to launch the mobile version of its cricket centric portal. July Systems is a media company, and its Mi Channel  powers channels for many popular news, sports, business, and entertainment brands. Mi Channel now powers Cricketnext.com’s mobile portal.

Talking about the development Rahul Pandey Head, Mobile 18 said "With the Mi Channel Platform, Cricketnext.com on mobile has seen markedly increased traffic. The site allows for quick and easy navigation, with instant access to live game information for cricket fans"

One can access the mobile version on m.cricketnext.com. With the cricket season underway a major spike is being seen in the usage of all the cricket portals. It is surely a good time to tap the market for the on the go mobile user who wants more than an sms update on the happenings of the match. Cricinfo does this by their feature known as mobicasts which it later launched for iPhones as well. Also in the race of cricket portals is nimbus owned cricketnirvana.com which boasts of no mobile site as yet.

Overtime I see the cricket battle being fought on the mobile phone as I feel cricket content would easily find a willing audience among gprs users as well.

Lodestar Universal report on ‘Super Influencers’ On The Web - India Ranks 2nd!

Lodestar Universal did a study to understand the growing power of social media users the world over. The study  profiled users who advocate products and tested other users who listened to their advice against opting for a particular brand or service. This study was done across 29 countries and included 17,000 active Internet users.

lodestar

The study identified users who were strongly influencing in 15+ product categories to announce the emergence of a ‘Super Influencer’. This super influencer uses social media to  influence others to spread opinion far and wide.

Key findings of this report include:

  • Super influencers are likely to be male, 25-34 years, mid- or senior influential office workers.
  • They are also more likely to be highly educated.
  • They fit the typical profile of early adopters who are likely to try new products, take risks and share their opinions with friends.
  • Their influence is not confined to the web and are likely to be asked by friends and family face to face on products and brands.
  • They are sociable and embrace life both online and offline.
  • They are the lead content generators online and are heavy users of Social Media.

The study also stated that Super Influencers are skewed to emerging Internet markets led by Brazil which has 24% of active Internet users falling into this ‘Super Influencer’ category followed by India, Mexico and Pakistan.

This report just illustrates how the word of mouth or social media is becoming more and more powerful in influencing brand perception among customers. While most agencies in India continue to work on pay for performance few are building product driven technology that can tap the power of social media and scale a campaign progressively for its clients.

There are some really large social media agencies abroad which would look at outsourcing theur work here in India now given the downturn in the US markets and hence the budget cuts expected in advertising. It will be interesting to see what kinds and what size of social media marketing firms develop in the Indian space.

Nach Baliye 4 Launches Microsite On MySpace.com - Myspace Promotion Strategy?

Its a trend officially now movies and tv programs are now using popular social networks and even portals to launch their microsites and online presence on the web. So orkut had hosted a dedicated group for MTV roadies not too long ago and even in.com has been very active with microsites for movies like singh is kinng and now it has partnered the upcoming movie dostana. It has also been the official website for the popular reality show big boss 2. It has also tied up with MTV now for MTV Youth icon.

It seems that the online head honcho’s have realised that the traction that a TV - Web combination can bring back to the web is unmatched by anything else. Also when such a combination is driven by entertainment oriented content.

So its no surprise that Nach Baliye 4 which is a just launch star tv dance reality show has tied up with MySpace.com. Point to note is the myspace is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp which also owns Star Tv. So its more of an internal deal. The site is hosted on myspace.com/NB.

This is News corp’s way of promoting Myspace in India which was launched recently as during the show Star Plus will be quoting the site in all its promotions. Also an individual URL of the judges and contestants will be flashed as well on screen as well to drive users to myspace. Myspace already hosts Videos, Pics and Blogs and from the participants.

The reason for this promotion could well be the fact that myspace late entry into the Indian market meant that it was far behind global competitors orkut and facebook. While orkut and facebook enjoy the top 10 ranking in terms of the most popular sites for India. Myspace has to make do with a rank of 79 for India. This even after launching an india specific in.myspace.com almost 5 months back.

Check the screenshot of the homepage of Myspace India below which clearly shows how desparate they are for users to invite their friends and ‘gang’

Naukri, Jeevansaathi, Sulekha, Financial Express & Makemytrip Go Mobile Via Spicetele’s Mobisoc Mitr

Spice Televentures has announced the launch of a new venture in mobile software called Mobisoc Technology Pvt. Ltd. Mobisoc’s vision is to enable rich internet experience on all mobile phones. Part of the MK Modi Group and led by chairman Dilip Modi mobisoc has already announced a number of tie ups with leading web players to power their mobile internet presence. Mobisoc has tied up with Naukri, Sulekha, jeevansaathi, financial express and makemytrip to power their mobile internet presence.

The mobile applications are accessible from respective companies websites, wap.mobisoc.com or by sending SMS to 56300 with the relevant short code (NAUKRI, JS, MMT, FE, SULEKHA)

mobisoc-naukri-jeevansaathi-bharatmatrimony

On the occassion of the launch Dilip Modi said, "We want to create an ecosystem where Mobile Phone truly becomes the entry point for all internet related needs of a user. Mobile has already started to influence the way people run their lives. We expect that in next few years, consumption of email, news, classifieds, search, etc on the mobile would far exceed that on the PC. In a country where mobile penetration is much higher than PC penetration, we see more tickets being booked on the mobile than the PC, as users are exposed to the rich internet experience and convenience of usage of mobile internet".

The downloadable apps are powered by Mobisoc’s flagship product Mitr and all the apps are available for blackberry, motorola, sony erricson, nokia and samsung phones. Recently at our WATBlog Panel Suvir Sujan of nexus india capital had stated that anything that makes the user take the effort to download something before using it isn’t a scalable model. So im not sure how successful this would be though Mr.Dilip modi is pretty upbeat and has told the hindu reporters that  they expect to grab 10 per cent share of the total GPRS phones sold in the country by December 2009.

The question arises is do even 10% of all the gprs phones sold have gprs access enabled? And if yes do all of them use it? I think the number would be far lesser than imagined!

Ltd., promoted by Paresh Rajde, which recently raised funding from Norwest Venture Partners India (NVP India) and Reliance Technology Ventures.

This tie up with Suvidhaa would mean that apnaloan’s content and services would be offered at the outlets of Suvidhaa Infoserve. The various services which will be offered by Apnaloan.com on the outlets of Suvidha Infoserve Pvt are Assisted Home Loan Search Services, Assisted Insurance Search Services, Ask Loan Expert Services, Ask an Insurance Expert Services and Various Calculators to allows customer to calculate his/her EMIs, Eligibility etc.

BookMyShow and Seventymm Tie up To Power Movie Ticketing on Seventymm.com

bookmyshow seventymmSeventymm the movie rental site seems to be looking to offer alternative entertainment services to its users and hence has introduced a movie ticket booking feature on its portal called as 'Seventymm Ticket Counter'. This ticketing feature is powered by Web18’s bookmyshow.com and the service will enable users to book their ticket through Seventymm and get latest updates about the movies and show timings in the theaters.

This does seem like a win win partnership though im not sure what kind of revenue share deal would have been struck between seventymm and bookmyshow.com but from a user perspective seventymm has made a smart move by offering movie ticket booking on its site which extends the brand value which is already associated with movies with a big way. Also it will help tap on the movie goer audience and get them to rent more dvd’s in due course of time.
