Everything is Public Now, Thanks to Pipl!

Every now and then when I am a little bored I do a little ego search on Google just to see info about myself online. I am sure I am not the only one :)

However what we see on Google is only the surface web. This is where Pipl scores over Google. With their technologies which scan the Deep Web, they are able to dig our dirt from all your closets and present it to you in one neat assortment.

Their business model? In between your links, you will find a sponsored link nicely camouflaged.

And just like in the case of Peter Parker, " With great power comes great responsibility" line comes to mind and sadly, the great power that Pipl gives people, just makes it into a wonderful stalking portal. You can now dig up information on that girl you met on some chat portal as long as you remember her handle (ok maybe not to that extent, but you get the idea).

The thing with Google is that it will show you your results in order of the pagerank of that page, so what you basically end up seeing on the first page are your profiles on all the top social networks you're on. However Pipl categorizes it differently (according to blog posts, email addresses, profiles etc), so now you can see your name pop up on those birth databases, public records, filings etc as well as those research papers you uploaded four years ago and forgot about them. It even has specific columns for phone numbers and email address too, though the phone number feature is currently limited to US and Canada.

Lately they have been getting just so much traffic (14 times their normal response from what I hear) since they're being profiled by almost every tech website online and they don't seem to be able to handle it. Be ware of running into this page:

Your browser may not support display of this image.

Though there have been other services likes Spock which tried to capitalise on people search, navigating on Spock IMHO is a bit irritating, especially since its way too cluttered with sponsored links.

Also, another people search portal, check out Spokeo (co-incidentally I see a lot of Spokeo ads on Pipl). However, here you can keep a check over all your friend's updates. So essentially, it's something of a Friendfeed, but unlike Friendfeed your friends don't need to be on it for you to follow their updates. However in case of Spokeo, they don't want it to become another social network and hence typical social network features such as comments, views etc cannot be found on Spokeo. The founders decided that the core function of Spokeo is to just keep a check on the updates.

Firefox Mobile Version On Your Mobiles Soon.. A Look At The Many Mobile Browsers..

In a recent development announced on Firefox powered mobile browser 'Fennec' project wiki there would be a major release of fennec browser  in the upcoming weeks though this release would be capped to htc touch pro powered by windows mobile.

This really sets the tone for a stable and wide release for windows mobile platform and it could really end the days of painful browsing on mobile.

The thing which really needs to be seen is that  can fennec support low configured handsets because currently it would be launched on a very high configuration handsets like htc touch pro and

What really is fennec?

fennec is being made in such a way that it resembles firefox on mobile platform.

It would be revolutionary because there aren't browsers available now which could provide seamless browsing on mobile platform without compromise on quality at large.

In their own words:-

Simple, fast navigation to Web content.Compatibility with the Web - Fennec will provide access to the “full” Web, including rich internet applications developed using AJAX.

It will integrate smoothly with device features, including easy initiation of phone calls from Web pages, access to local search, maps and directions.

A platform for innovation on mobile - A key strength of Firefox is its support for third-party innovation through full support for rich internet applications and for Add-ons.

Any developer with skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript will be able to develop for mobile.

If you want to try out fennec then there is a emulated version to use on windows available here.

Current developments in mobile browser arena:

Opera mobile 9.5 beta :-

status: currently in beta and available for download.

This version of opera when comes out of beta has the ability to take the reigns out of mozilla because its made to work on handsets with low configurations.there are chances that opera may eventually make it free after it comes out of beta rather than charging like their previous version of opera mobile 8.65.

Microsoft deepfish:

status:currently in alpha stage.

even microsoft dont want to  be left behind in the mobile browser race and is working on making deepfish mobile a strong competitor to other browsers.

Skyfire:

status:- beta stage and available for download

This is the most hyped mobile browser of the lot and fully live upto its hype. Its main feature is incredible flash support where you can even watch online streaming videos.

Other notable browsers are iris and netfront and amongst them netfront truly stands out.

If the developments are to be analyzed then it truly tells us that the next big action is going to be in mobile space including mobile advertising this could further be guaranteed by the fact that two big companies i.e google and nokia is betting big in mobile space google through android and adsense for mobile and nokia through Maemo-its operating system for high powered mobiles.
