Sun Direct had launched its DTH services in South India in December last year and already garnered 65 per cent market share. It then launched it services in North India a few months back. Sun Direct is a 80:20 joint venture between the Maran family and the Astro Group of Malaysia and offers 200-plus channels which includes 23 radio channels and video on demand. Its been one of the fastest growing DTH Players and seems to be adding 10,000 subscribers. DTH has become a big play for most large companies and players like BIGTv, Airtel, TATA and Zee all have launched their respective DTH services and seem to be pumping in advertising dollars both online and offline to woo the consumers. Even Sun wont spare an expense as it plans to pump in over 150 crore in expansion. More on Suns expansion plans here. While Sun seems to be going all guns blazing on DTH Videocon the consumer electronics giant which was suppose to launch its DTH service christened as D2H has decided to delay the same to next fiscal year. This would mean that D2H would launch alongwith Videocon’s cellular servive Datacom which also expected around that time. Videocon’s entry into this market will make it the 6th player to launch DTH services. With already 5 really large players in the market its going to be a fierce competition among the biggies to garner market share in this business.
