Ad Network Foray Crucial For Its Future?Guruji has launched its own ad network and it joins the long list of ad networks out there trying to make better of a slowing economy. Why is it important? - Guruji is the ad network funded by Sequoia the same guys who backed google in its early days. Also guruji has built sizeable traction (have a look at alexa and google trends). Both these make guruji a serious player in the local search space. It has also made a string of vertical search launches right from finance to music moving towards a possible expansion from being just a local search player to a horizontal portal of sorts which is driven on information search. How long will it take to build advertiser traction? - If you ask me the answer is long probably very long. But the good part is that the model isn’t new and the dozen ad networks working to build advertiser traction. Though the pie is small their cumulative efforts will bring results in the medium to the longterm. What is the future for guruji? - Im not so sure Guruji can last for another 3 years. In the next couple of years it would either need to raise more money or get acquired. Both raising money and acquisition in the current market looks tough so this move to venture into an adnetwork model is crucial for its longetivity in the market.
