Google Now Will Transcribe Voicemail To Email

Trust Google to acquire companies and turn them around in a year or two to build interesting products. This is exactly what has been done with Google’s acquisition of  Grand Central Communications, a company that Google acquired in July 2007.

google voice

Google has used the technology built by this company and created a product that seems to seemlessly integrate voicemail and email. The product is called Google voice.

This product allows a person to store transcripts of voicemail phone messages in their email (gmail) inbox and also makes it possible to find a specific information within a phone message as its converted into a text based email conversation.

This is inline with Googles strategy to organize all the worlds information and make it accessible.

One can watch a video on the product below:

This product is currently open to Grand Central Users only and the features of the same can be looked up here. Its not difficult to imagine how effective this would be for business users in India. When in a meeting one could activate voicemail and access one’s email and know what message has been left. Though I dont think this product will come to India in a hurry. Its surely interesting enough for companies here to attempt this kind of a product. Though its revenue model is something that is a grey area as it wont be simple to monetize such a product unless there is a premium version.

Naukri Follows Cleartrip - Adds Chatbot Based Search - Opportunity For Horizontal Chatbot?

Just recently cleatrip announced its chatbot based search feature and now Naukri has joined the fray with its own chat bot for jobs. Now people looking for jobs can chat their way to a new job opening by adding Naukri.com’s 'NaukriOnChat' to the Gtalk chat ids. This can be done by adding jobs@chat.naukri.com as a friend in your Gtalk list of friends. Then after typing 'help' to get instructions, just follow them to get going on your search for new job opportunities.

Check the screeshot below for example

Whats the limitation?
Unlike Cleartrips case where you dont need to be a registered user to buy a ticket in Naukri users can both search and apply on Naukri but if they are not registered on Naukri with a Gmail id they can only search for jobs and view job descriptions, but can't apply.

Is there an opportunity for an horizontal chatbot?

The very fact that we companies like cleartrip and naukri have launched a gtalk based chat bot feature its a sign that chat is where a lot of the current users spend their time. This throws up the opportunity for a chat based search product which is horizontal in nature i.e. you can search jobs, matrimony, travel etc all through a chat bot and book it as well whenever possible.Additionally news, search and various other funtions can be performed through chat.

Why it may work?

When it comes to technology convenience is the mother of innovation. A chatbot that allows me not to open a new tab or browser window till a point where Ive found what I wanted to find can be of real value.

Who could launch such a product?

This product can easily be launched by one of the horizontal players like Rediff or In.com and even google. The question is will they launch and pursue it seriously. Because given the time spent by users on chat clients this could very well redefine the way people search. But again its necessary to execute it well and keep chat instructions simpler than what they are for products like naukri above.

Whats your take? Will something like this work?

Komli’s Vizisense Launches Online Media Planning Tool - MediaMix

Komli Media an ad network backed by VC’s lIke DFJ, Nexus and Helion which had earlier launched an online traffic measurement and metric tool in vizisense.com has now extended that product to include online media planning tool called Mediamix. We had predicted this when they had launched Vizisense late last year.

Mediamix Screenshot (click to enlarge)

This is a natural extension as having traffic statistics and data on websites and their demographics means the same can be converted into a media planning tool. This isn’t the first media planning tool available as Google ad planner (a free media planning tool from google) has been around for sometime now. Though google has recieved flak for its planner tool and the accuracy of the data it represents.

Google Ad Planner Tool (click to enlarge)

Besides for the google ad planner tool media planners usually rely on the data given to them by the publishers which ofcourse would be skewed in their favor. There is no credible, standalone, accurate tool that can given relevant data to both publishers and media planners. There are players like comscore and imrb which keep releasing data on overall indian internet users and also top websites. But a longtail media planning tool like google ad planner which is accurate is still to be found in the Indian market. This attempt by Komli is to create that tool.

How does Vizisense MediaMix Work?

ViziSense MediaMix presents a site's demographic composition for the selected target audience, along with overall statistics on unique unduplicated visitors, reach, and page views. MediaMix also contains features that allow agencies and marketers to save, export and compare media plans for future use.

How does it capture data?

1. The ViziSense Panel, which captures the complete Internet behaviour and consumption pattern of more than 15,000 online users in real time. Panelists are recruited across a cross section of various demographic segments to ensure a well-diversified and representative sample.

2. The ViziSense Tag, embedded by publishers on their Web pages, that provides actual traffic data for a given Web site.

Access to ViziSense MediaMix is currently under closed beta and is available by invitation only.
